On Usage of the Body

Earlier this year I went to see the optometrist and, for the first time in my life, my eyes had a slight deviation in score.

“So my vision is no longer 20/20?” I asked the doc. “Yes, but it’s so little deviation that you could still operate just fine without glasses on most days… but that would cause you more harm over time.”

A few months later I’m thinking… what’s the essence of going through life without putting this body to proper use, and it wearing and tearing, degrading ever so slowly? Thing is, whether you put it to good use, bad use or no use, it will still degrade.

So while we are on this short sojourn, why not be intentional about wearing it out doing the right things? The things that light up our souls, that bring us joy, that leave an impact on this earth?

For the last 6 years I’ve been buried deep in my laptop curating details, creating digital products that are doing their work in the world today, reading, upskilling, and in the ever hungry pursuit of knowledge and understanding… It only makes sense that the artificial brightness of the screen over all these years will have an effect on my eyes, and my back will ache from the bad posture of trying to zoom in on the details that bring out the beauty in my work.

Oh what beauty, that my body testifies against me to the commitment and the deep trenches I’ve been in, in pursuit of creativity and excellence.

And so as I sojourn through this world, let my knees buckle from walking to see the ends of the world, let my hands ache from the good that I do, let my mind ache from thoughts that birth innovations, and let my heart ache from loving ever so boldly and loudly.
